Home Designer WENDY BAKER hates the words INTERIOR DESIGNER, to her it conjures up lots of flowery curtains with cushions to match and a ‘throw’ here and there! A colour palate of cream, cream and more cream.
She believes her job should be to design a home for her clients, with her clients, creating a look and feel that fits in with their life style and takes into account all the family…. She is there to steer them clear of those costly pitfalls, without anyone even noticing….that’s why you have a designer, but obviously you need one that knows her stuff!
After all the clients have to be relaxed and happy in their home, and they will be the ones paying that final invoice!
The best way forward may seem the boring way but believe me, it’s the safest way. MAKE A PLAN together with Wendy and stick to it….make a list of essentials for every room, choose a colour palette for the whole house, so that the feeling of colour flows through the house . Make a sample board incorporating those colours for each room and select paint colours and then fabrics . Once everyone
is happy with the schemes ..go for it!
SHOESTRING BOOK COMPANY...
Another of Wendy’s companies is SHOESTRING BOOKS which specialises in illustrated books for
the soft furnishing industry. Books filled with ideas for CURTAINS/DRAPES, as well as BLINDS, BED TREATMENTS and ACCESSORIES.
The company was started by Wendy Baker, when to she realised she had hundreds of SKETCHES of design ideas for window treatments, she clipped them together in a file for quick reference to show her clients. Other designers asked for a copy, and a year later it was in the form of a laminated book which sold for £35. Demand was so great that the sketches were sent to the printers and THE CURTAIN SKETCH BOOK was launched. This book has broken all records, containers of them have been shipped to every country…most designers around the world owns at least one copy!
Now several years later WENDY BAKER has published 6 books for SHOESTRING BOOKS and several for other publishers, her books sell worldwide, for instance in Poland her Curtain Recipe Book is a big seller….the Americans and the Russians can’t get enough of them and the Chinese have just copied them!
ANOTHER NEW VENTURE...
In September Wendy will be starting...WENDY BAKER INTERIOR DESIGN COURSES these will
be tailor made for each person depending on their requirements. The course will cater for all ages, students who perhaps don’t want to go to University and would prefer to ‘get on with life’ by learning an exciting career as a DESIGNER...or maybe someone who is looking for a new challenge or just a career change with flexible hours and job satisfaction ! There is a lot to learn so be prepared for
hard work.
